Meet Coach Lance

I completed my first sprint triathlon several years ago and was instantly hooked. This sparked in me a secret desire to someday complete a full IRONMAN®. I kept this to myself knowing that as the executive of a large company with a busy travel schedule along with my family responsibilities, it might be impossible to find the time to train for such a demanding race. Still, my passion for the sport continued to grow, and after extensive research and conversations with several IRONMAN® finishers, I felt confident that with proper training and the right coach I could achieve my goal of completing an IRONMAN®. I told friends and family members about my goal, and I got a lot of the same reaction: “Are you crazy?” If you’re anything like me, you know this only strengthened my determination.

Several years later I have now completed three IRONMAN® 70.3 races and one IRONMAN® 140.6 race along with several smaller triathlons, duathlons and local running events. However, along this journey, I’ve learned that more than finishing races and receiving medals, what I enjoy most about triathlon are the friends I’ve made and introducing new people into the greatest sport in the world.

I truly believed that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

My Approach

Every coach has a unique approach and style. I know from experience that finding the right coach is a top priority and that real-world race experience is an important quality to find in the person leading your training. Your coach must be someone you feel comfortable with and understands your WHY or your GOALS. Not everyone athlete wants to WIN the race, some of us just want to finish.

There’s one question you need to ask yourself: is your goal to cross the finish line or is your goal to place on the podium?

My approach to training is simple and straight forward. I feel that most training plans are very difficult to understand for the beginner triathlete who just wants to know what workouts they need to do without being overwhelmed by extensive data and statistics. By making every workout session easy to comprehend, the athlete can focus on completing the workout and allow the coach to analyze the data and give feedback to the athlete. Anyone can complete an IRONMAN if they are willing to put in the training and believe in their own mind that they can do it. The training won't be easy but, in the end, it will be worth it.

I also know that my coaching style isn't for every triathlete. If the athlete has many years of racing experience or they have a goal of finishing in the top of their age group, then I might not be the right Coach for them. Of course, I am always happy to refer them to my network of other coaches in the Dallas area that can help them achieve their goals or even punch their ticket to KONA. I also work with area coaches who can review your bike fit and perform V02 and lactate testing.
